My position on this subject is on the Introduction page under "Nothing to do with being Governor" topic.  People misunderstand the power of a Texas Governor, he cannot arbitrarily decide to allow or prohibit any Civil Act, that is what the Legislators do.  But this issue has come up in several emails from viewers, so let's start a discussion.

I support Freedom of Speech and free expression, but I want Civil Discourse not an all out war, or flaming.  I reserve the right to edit or remove any content posted here.  So be nice and intelligent, or go home.

I was very interested in what you said about several issues on your website; I didn't however, under your personal view section see what your views are on same sex marriages and abortion. Are you for or against?

I need to expand my answer under my section on Abortion, you get the first view of the expansion, you can read the basic view where mentioned above.

Several of the proponents for Abortion have defended their premise based on an arbitrary inability to determine the actual "Moment of life".  They claim there is no way to define this moment, yet have no problem accepting the moment the head leaves the Vagina, as that particular moment.  I challenge any woman or doctor to show me the "Magical Energy Wall" that a baby passes through to "become" alive.  If there is such a wall, then we can start passing dead loved ones and pets through it and bring them back to life...I bet you'd make more money that way then with Abortion.

There is no such "Wall" or "Barrier", which demands the position that life does not have a defining moment when it comes to "Location".  This means that in or out of the womb does not reflect whether a thing is alive or not.  This means that another way to define life must be found.  Ridiculously simple, we could just use the defining moment of the accepted opposite of life, Death, reverse it, and call that Life.

Clinical Death is defined as the Heart ceasing to function, as evidenced by, the Heart ceasing to beat on its own.  There are many ways to resuscitate a Human Heart, e.g., CPR, Adrenaline Injection, Defibrillators, to name a few.  For this reason, Legal Death is defined as the moment the Brain ceases to function, as evidenced by, the cessation of Brain Waves.  With such clear cut and provable definitions of Death, we are afforded the same measures for the clear-cut definition of Life.

Clinical Life begins within 8 days.  Assuming a natural "normal" pregnancy, all babies get their Heart Beat by the eighth day of conception.  The actual moment of conception and the subsequent attachment to the Uterine Wall could take up to 7 days, though it generally happens within 2 days.  Even assuming the 7 day interval from the time of intercourse, a baby has a Heart Beat by the 15th day after the sexual event that spawned it.  I know of no procedure being routinely used today that can detect pregnancy in that time period.  That means that the baby has eclipsed the moment of Clinical Life before anyone can know that it is happening.

A simple Earth worm has 6 hearts and no discernible brain, and yet NO ONE would say that it is not "alive" while those hearts beat.  So most people would be hard pressed to explain why the simple earth worm is alive with a simple heart beat and a Human baby is not.  But for those hard-core cases, let's address the Brain Wave issue.

A "normal" baby has a "measurable" Brain Wave Pattern within 10 weeks.  Brain Waves are low-energy emissions which take very sensitive equipment to detect in Adults that are able to wear the equipment ACTUALLY on their heads.  How much more sensitive does the equipment have to be for a baby in the womb.  There is already an issue with getting the equipment close enough, but, add to that the difference in sizes of the brain and the strength of the emissions.  So to determine the actual moment the normal Brain begins to function is impossible at this time, we will have to settle with an average "detectable" moment.  This makes the baby LEGALLY Alive, without question, by 10 weeks.  That is 2 weeks, or less than halfway, through the 2nd Trimester, and about 1 - 2 weeks after the average woman can even find out that she is pregnant.  Based upon this Data, the average woman is passed the Legal Life definition before she knows she is pregnant or has decided to abort.

Finally, the Judicial reason against Abortion;

When a person is stopped in the act of trying to do a crime, even though they never actually committed a crime, they are charged with "attempted-" whatever.  The assumption is that they are actually guilty of the crime because without the interruption, they would have actually committed the crime.

When the embryo attaches to the Uterine Wall, it is now in the act of "Attempted Life".  Without intervention from outside elements, it will progress until it is a living, functioning Human being.  If it is lawful and right to charge a grown Human with a crime simply for attempting it, then it is only fair to afford the baby that very same justice, it is in the commission of Life and thus must be charged with LIFE!

And so, because of these and the basic premise I have outlined on my site already, I am totally against Abortion.  However, as previously stated, unless the People choose to make a change, my position has absolutely nothing to do with the Office of Governor and the duties therein.

I would also like to address one more point on this issue, no matter what your position is, for or against, there can never be any form of Government assistance to pay for abortions, neither here or abroad.  You cannot use Public Funds (Tax Money) to support positions held as abhorrent to members of the population that pay into these Funds.  Thomas Jefferson stated, "To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical"
