Well, I know that people are going to want to know some particulars about me that have absolutely nothing to do with the duties of a Texas Governor. However, it will still be on people's minds, so, I thought it would be a good idea to answer them now. That way, I won't have to spend time on the campaign trail answering silly questions when we have enough real questions to get to. Here is my "Questions that don't Matter" Resume:
WHY DIDN'T YOU GO TO COLLEGE?
I was told a long time ago, by a teacher who's opinion I respected, that "College doesn't teach you the answers, it teaches how to find the answers". Between my own educational experiences and seeing the effect of "higher education" on people I knew, I began to doubt that college was the right choice for me. Yeah, it would have been nice to have the resources that institutes of learning have at their disposal, but, considering how little time I would have had away from my mandatory studies, I wasn't going to be able to delve as deep as I would have obsessed for. I have a drive to learn things and I have a my own way of learning them. Most people are unable to teach me in a way that is effective. I realized, I could find the truth myself, ask questions of those that actually worked in that area, and learn more than I could have in school.
In the eighties the Liberal slant and practices of the Professors was already a factor and becoming an issue. Liberals are the worst for preaching agenda not teaching knowledge, or how to PROPERLY process the data. I didn't need a liberal propagandized, half-truth education, I needed the truth and ALL the data to back it up, to MY satisfaction. Besides, the fact of the matter is, a human discovered this information in the first place and if it is the truth, I will find it too. I love this analogy: My Daddy told me to go around a big log instead of over it, or I would skin my knee. I, of course, thinking that I am smarter and more capable than my old man, step over the log. On the other side of the log is a slime covered mud puddle and sure enough, I slip and skin my knee. Now true, I could have saved myself the hassle and pain by just doing what my Dad had told me, however, I would not have learned the lesson for myself. I could tell tell people not to step over logs and why, but I wouldn't have really gotten the experience without skinning my own knee. Why go to college to be indoctrinated, when I could find the knowledge myself, and know it like the people that discovered it. Knowledge + Experience = Wisdom.
Do not missunderstand my answer, I completely believe in education, especially higher education. What is good for one person is not good for another, and honestly, the average person would not have prospered by doing it the way I did.
WHAT IS YOUR RELIGIOUS BELIEF?
I am basically a non-denominational, charismatic, Christian. I am not into Organized Religion or dogmatic churches. I am more spiritual than religious. I was raised in the Nazarene Church till I was 6, then became a Lutheran, Missouri Synod (one of the more literal about Bible teachings). At 19 I became "Born Again" and since have become jaded with most Ministers and Churches. I believe, that if there is 1 God, 1 Christ, 1 Salvation, 1 Bible, then there ought to be just 1 Church? You should never bring Politics into Religion. Actually, you should never bring Politics into anything, it just screws everything up.
Everyone has the Right to choose their own actions and beliefs. And as Christians, we are directed by God to allow people to make those choices, YOUR choice is YOUR responsibility. I don't have to like a person's choice, but I cannot make it for them. I will demand the Right to my Belief, and I will demand that you have that right too. And, as far as religious people go, it doesn't matter what it takes to make someone a good, responsible, honest, and caring person, it only matters that they ARE a good, responsible, honest, and caring person. So lighten up, Haters!
WELL, IF YOU'RE A "MORE LITERAL" CHRISTIAN, WHAT IS YOUR STAND ON 1) ABORTION?
I believe that all Humans have an intrinsic right to self-choice. That none of us have the right to choose for someone else or to affect them without their consent. I believe that an innocent should never suffer for someone else's choice. And, that stopping a beating heart, by cognizant decision and direct action, IS the definition of Murder.
To me there is never a justification for stopping an innocents heart, if we start there, where do we end. I remember the discussions of Roe v Wade, and I remember the opposition to the decision saying; If we start killing our babies, pretty soon we will kill our sick, our elderly, and our invalid. Everyone on the other side laughed, "Yeah right, like that would EVER happen in America"...does anyone remember Dr. Kevorkian, maybe Terry Shivo. You can never open the door to justifying or legalizing, crimes against the innocent, once humans start, they just don't stop.
One of the BIGGEST justifications I hear is, "It's my body, I can do what I want with it". Ok, if you were going around cutting off, and cutting out, parts of your body, they'd grab you really quick and lock you away. And, I have yet to hear a woman tell me exactly what part of her body she doesn't have after the baby is born, that she did before she got pregnant. Most women stop their Menstrual Cycle while pregnant and save between 5 and 11 eggs per pregnancy. You actually put off Menopause and Hormone Treatments* by a year for every baby. So, you actually have MORE body parts after having the baby, then you would have without having gotten pregnant at all.
BUT, we have laws that dictate what society will accept, and until we have a state-wide or national vote on Abortion, it is going to stay that way. The Governor can't change that, it is the People's decision. Whatever rule is applied to the People, should be placed upon the People, by the People! And until that day comes, I have my opinion, you have yours.
*There is some discussion that the availability of eggs and Menopause might not necessarily be related, however for most women, they coincide
2)HOMOSEXUALITY
This is exactly the meaning of choice, I do not like Homosexuality, so I will not be Homosexual, you however, have to decide for yourself. I am not your judge, just as you are not mine, and your personal decision is not and never should be, regulated by any law.
3) GAY MARRIAGE
Originally when this whole thing started, it wasn't about "Marriage". Homosexual couples wanted the same rights under the law as heterosexual couples. They wanted insurance for their "spouse" and tax credit's just like "normal" couples. When the Government ignored their pleas for Equality, Fairness, and Justice, they decided, "Hey, we just get 'legally' married and they will have to give it to us". Pretty ridiculous that in a "free" and "All Men are created equal" society, we have an entire group of people being treated differently. However, I also thinks it's pretty ridiculous that any people would purposely offend someone else, simply for a word.
I don't care what you call it, pick any word that actually means something to you, not just so you can piss off people you don't like. So give Homosexual, long-term, domicile sharing couples the same rights and benefits as Heterosexual ones, but, leave Christians and others alone, and pick a different word than "marriage". That was not what the fight was about, Equality under the Law and in Society was.
YOU OBVIOUSLLY DON'T BELONG TO A POLITICAL PARTY, AND YOU HAVE A DISDAIN FOR LIBERALS, SO ARE MORE MODERATE OR CONSERVATIVE?
I am the basically "Conservative" by definition, as my comments on the previous topics makes absolutely clear. But, I would have to say that most of the Conservatives that I meet are a little right from me, I feel that I am more Moderate than Conservative. Having said all that, I really just stick to the truth, what's real, and what's the best way. I don't ascribe to a particular "system", just like my politics, I grab ONLY what works from all of the systems and use that to build the perfect system.
YOU HAVE SEVERAL QUOTES FROM MARTIN LUTHER KING, AMONG OTHERS, WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON RACE?
I believe that there is 1 Race, everyone of us are of the Human Race. Look at Tulips, they may be red, yellow, orange, or blue, but they are all still Tulips. So too with the Human Race, we may be different colors and characteristics, but we are ONE RACE, and we are all African.
This sets up an interesting point, you can't actually be racist, instead you would have to be a COLORIST. You can still be a bigot, still be prejudiced, but you cannot be racist, you are simply putting down your own race. So why don't we get over this incredibly stupid reason to make an "Us and Them" and begin to work together with the whole Human Race to save this world and our future.
