HOUSTON — Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison had all the advantages a year ago when she laid her plans to run for governor: a high popularity rating, a party shaken by President Obama’s victory, a big bankroll and, most important, the backing of influential Republicans, who felt the incumbent governor, Rick Perry, was too divisive and too conservative.
“You have got to give Rick Perry and his team a great deal of credit for being the longest-serving governor in Texas history and still running a campaign as an outsider,” said Mark Sanders, a Republican consultant. “Outsiders are what people want right now.”
These insurgent candidates have been tapping into the anger among independents, libertarians, evangelical Christians and right-wing Republicans — loosely tied together by the nascent Tea Party movement — who tend to oppose a strong federal government, dislike taxes, support gun rights, stand against abortion and fiercely protect privacy and property rights.
Mr. Perry was also helped by the national recession, which did not hit Texas as hard as it did the rest of the country, allowing him to claim his conservative fiscal policies were the reason.

Well give credit where credit is due, Gov Perry's team can spin propaganda as well as Obama's team.
Do we remember the Trans-Texas Corridor Project, which at last accounting, Gov Perry is still trying to salvage. You know the project that ignored "Property Rights" and gave the job and the Toll proceeds to a Spanish Corporation, not an American one, much less a Texas Company.
And as for his "Fiscally Conservative" policies, remember we were told that Texas would be slower to be hit by the Recession and less affected due to the amount of money made by Big Oil in this state. If you want proof, we have the second highest GDP right behind California, but rank 30th in wealth distribution due to our large number of families living in Poverty. Last year Exxon made the largest profit EVER in the history of profit, by far, as Texans were losing their jobs and Christmas was a dismal turn-out for many Texas businesses. Not as bad as the rest of the country, does not mean it was good.
I compare Rick Perry's fourth term election to the Bail-Out Bill of 2008. If the very businesses that were the absolute financial Guru's with the "Best & the Brightest", the ones that set the very policies and procedures that all businesses follow, and with all the money in the world, couldn't stay solvent, then what does a few dollars more do? If the "Great" Gov Perry couldn't save Texas in the 12 years he already had, what does 4 more do? (2 years Lt Gov & 10 years Gov)
But let's be fair, ex-Houston Mayor Bill White is no alternative. He promised to fix Houston Highways, to get all the projects done that have been dragging and ignored for too long. The Katy Freeway is the ONLY Highway Project that has been completed. The rest of Houston Highways have been in a constant state of "Repair" causing delays and accidents for 8 years. God help Houston if there is a spur-of-the-moment emergency evacuation, you won't be able to leave the city.
He promised to enforce the Court rulings to shut down the SOB's, ("Titty Bars", "Massage Parlors", and Adult Bookstores) that were not in compliance with City Ordinances or had too many Nuisance Violations before he left the Mayors Office. So far only 2 SOB Night Clubs have been shut down, and 1 of them has already reopened.
In all honesty, the only shining star in his time as Mayor was his handling of Ike, but wasn't he just doing his job?
If Texas wants the Status Quo of "Businesses as usual", more Toll Roads with proceeds going to Out-of-State and Foreign Companies, or a violation of any right to property, Perry is your man. If you want empty promises and a lot of questionable practices, go with Bill White. But if you want a real change, check out my site, ask Debra Madina to run as an Independent Write-In Candidate, or check out any other alternative. Because this much is true, what is in our near future in this State and Country is not what we have experienced on this planet so far, and if you want something new and beneficial, those two are NOT your answer!
Check out my "Plan" and see what I would do in 10 years!
